It is with regret that at last night’s committee meeting, it was agreed to cancel the Great Ouse Marathon this year.

The race takes a lot of time to organise and there are a lot of up-front costs. There is no assurance that covid will be over by September, or when racing in any form can re-start.

Even if it were possible to hold the race, it is likely that the number of crews prepared to enter would be significantly reduced because of concerns about traveling, and because rowers have not had time to train for a 22k race.

It’s a shame, but let’s hope there will be lots of pent-up demand for next year’s race.
