Seren Palmer fought off competition from hundreds of other rowers to seal first place in a race at the Blenheim Palace Junior Regatta.

12-year-old Seren travelled to the palace in Oxfordshire, and took first place in the WJ12 1x heat and then in the final – a feat made more impressive by the fact she started her rowing career last September.

“I was shocked at the stunning views and couldn’t believe I was part of such an amazing event,” Seren said.

“The atmosphere was incredible and I was so thankful to be able to take part. I couldn’t have done it without the amazing coaches and support of the Isle of Ely Rowing Club.”

Seren was presented with her award by members of the winners of the Oxford University Boat Race, including women’s boat club president, Maddy Badcott, and the youngster was delighted to meet one of her rowing heroes.

She said: “I can’t believe I actually shook hands with the Oxford Boat Race winners!”
