Double Olympic medalist Zac Purchase will be making two visits to Isle of Ely Rowing Club as part of a Learn to Row course.

He will be visiting Ely as part of the scheme to get 17 to 25-year-olds rowing, which is funded by a Sportivate grant.

The first session will be at Isle of Ely Rowing Club on August 10, between 6.30pm and 8pm, with Purchase due to be in attendance, and the sessions will continue to run every Monday for five weeks.

The course will include a capsize drill and coaching on and off the water, with Purchase making his second visit on Monday, September 7 to see how the new rowers are progressing.

"Having been involved in sport for many years, I have seen the positive impact it can have on people's lives," said Purchase. "I hope to share my challenging experiences to the benefit of others and I'm really looking forward to helping the participants get fully involved in rowing."

Jayne Molyneux, the strategic lead for youth at Sport England, which funds the Sportivate programme, said: "Our Sportivate programme is all about listening to young people and putting on taster sessions in a sport of their choice to help them make the step into community sport and set them on the path to creating a sporting habit for life."
