Welcome to The Isle of Ely Rowing Club!

The club was born out of the Diamond44 celebrations in February 2004 which marked the 60th anniversary of the 1944 University Boat Race rowed at Ely. The Club colours, dark blue for Oxford and light blue for Cambridge, symbolise this connection.

 

We are a friendly club, open to the whole community and welcome rowers of all levels of ability. The club has a strong men's squad, sculling group and an enthusiastic novice group.  We also run Learn to Row Courses at various points in the year for Adult beginners.

 

The club also has a successful Junior section and we have recently been awarded Clubmark accreditation.

Women Win for Isle of Ely

Isle of Ely Rowing Club women and the club’s women junior scullers have enjoyed two successive weekends of success, earning wins at the Huntingdon Small Boats Head on 22nd October and Norfolk Sculls a week later.
Women’s junior sculler Libby Milne (pictured) won her WJ16 single sculling event at Norfolk Sculls completing the demanding 5,000m course in a time of 24 minutes exactly, beating her nearest rival by 25 seconds.    She then went on to race over the course a second time, this time doubling with King’s School Ely partner Phoebe Bradbury.   Bradbury, who had been ill during her first singles race earlier in the day bravely recovered to work well with Milne to beat competitors in the older age category of WJ18.   Milne and Bradbury completed the course in a time of 22 minutes and 43 seconds, 28 seconds ahead of the second fastest crew, which included the winner of the WJ18 single sculls event. “It was a good day for me,” commented Milne reflecting on her two races. “Everything came together and I’m learning to be more aggressive in my racing.”
The Milne/Bradbury doubles victory was their second in two weeks, following success for the Isle of Ely Rowing Club/King’s School Ely composite crew at Huntingdon Small Boats Head.   At this event the girls raced 4,000m on the River Ouse between Houghton Lock and Huntingdon Bridge.
The Isle of Ely Rowing Club senior women also notched up notable wins.  Andrea Hoskins, racing in the Women’s Masters A category won her singles race before competing in the women’s composite Isle of Ely/Rob Roy composite quad with crew mates Chiara Ferrara, Sarah Allen and Charlotte Drury.  The quad not only won their race but completed the course as the fastest women’s boat overall. 

Ely Small Boats Head - Cancelled

The Small Boats Head due to be held on 6th November has been cancelled due to circumstances beyond the control of the Club. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused.

Ely Junior Scullers Clinch Silver Medal

jirr medal winners1Three women junior fifteen scullers and their cox from the Isle of Ely Rowing Club beamed with delight as they collected their silver medals for the WJ15 coxed quadruple sculls event at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta at Nottingham on Saturday.

Laura Sibson and Phoebe Bradbury, representing the King's School Ely, and Libby Milne and cox Ellen Bridges, representing the Isle of Ely Rowing Club, teamed up with Izzy Gibson from Norwich Rowing Club.  The crew had been selected to represent the East of England at the Inter Regional event held at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.

Isle of Ely Rowing Club Scullers Secure Victories on the Cam

The third and final leg of the Cambridge Winter League Head race at the weekend produced an impressive crop of winners for the Isle of Ely Rowing Club.  The times for the January and February legs of the race are added to the results from the third leg to generate winners for each of the race categories.

For the juniors, Laura SIbson won the WJ15 single sculling category, whilst club mates Phoebe Bradbury and Libby Milne clinched victory in the WJ double sculls, beating their nearest rivals from St. Ives by over thirty seconds, despite being a whole year younger.

Cambridge Winter League Second Leg

Twenty-two crews ranging from Women Junior 15 scullers through to Masters F veteran oarsmen competed on behalf of the Isle of Ely Rowing Club in Cambridge last weekend.
